Case Study:FLEET AIR ARM MUSEUM

Background

The Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm Museum in Somerset has the largest collection of Naval aircraft in Europe. It is also an operational naval airbase (RNAS Yeovilton) as well as housing the first ever British built Concorde. Added to this they offer the award winning ‘Carrier Experience’, plus a new hall celebrating 100 years of naval aviation, an education department, shop, restaurants and events.

A client of CompanyX since 2005, we have successfully designed a wide range of printed materials for them as well as their latest website.

The requirement

Our task was simple. Increase the number of visitors to the museum by promoting the diverse range of attractions on offer and it’s ideal suitability for those visiting the area.

To broaden it’s appeal, the museum was positioned as an all weather attraction and a fantastic day out.

In print

CompanyX worked closely with the client to identify the key printed elements required and designed a broad range of promotional materials including the main tourist DL leaflet and dispenser, bus back advertising and souvenir brochure as well as supporting material for the non tourist audience e.g. teachers, local businesses etc.

Key audiences:

- Tourists holidaying
- Daytrippers
- School parties
- Aircraft enthusiasts
- Corporate / Local business
- Events attendees

Online

The Fleet Air Arm Museum website plays an increasingly important role in it's marketing but it had been suffering from a series of temporary ‘make do’ changes over the years that offered little to tempt a potential visitor.

CompanyX were given the opportunity to redesign the website and dynamically present all of the features and benefits of the museum. It also gave us the chance to make the website more consistent with the visual style developed for the printed material.

CompanyX designed a structure that enabled users to quickly access core areas of interest via quick links off the homepage. A variety of views (templates that can manage all content variations) were then produced enabling the developers to build the entire site.

Outcome and Benefits

- Fresher brighter and more engaging content
- Easily managed by client.
- Multi level administration
- More 'Future proof' site structure
- Relating products in shop to exhibits
- Engage with a more varied audience
- Higher eshop sales and more web enquiries

“Company X have worked with us for the past four years and their work has undoubtedly contributed to our excellent visitor figures. I have found them attentive, good with detail, competitive and of course very creative”.
