Case Study:PATTERSONS

Background

Pattersons are one of the South West’s leading Bar, Cleaning and Catering suppliers. Based in Bristol, established in 1889 and still owned by the Pattersons family, it currently sells the trade over 12,000 products online and through regional distribution centres.

Our challenge

Initially CompanyX were asked to refresh the Pattersons identity (see case study work) in time for their move to new headquarters. It was clear during this time that their website was also in need of updating, and we were asked to come up with some alternative ideas of how the site could work more effectively.

Our role was to research, concept, consult and project manage the new approach, the site architecture, functionality and all of the back end development. The look and feel of the site was developed by the Pattersons inhouse design department.

Features

– Full integration with stock management
– One database avoids duplication of tasks
– Secure account area (on contract)
– Secure credit card area (retail)
– Unique customer pricing structure
– Multiple delivery location control
– Head office regional budget control
– High SEO content for better response
– Fully functional CMS
– In-depth analytics tools

We proposed to extend the stock management system to integrate with the website and a CRM system. We also suggested that the majority of the ‘day to day’ ordering could be managed by the customers themselves, freeing up the sales team to develop key accounts.

Outcome and Benefits

- Monthly sales up from £3k to £120k
- 43% increase in average order value
- ROI £35 per £1 spent with CompanyX
- Conversion rate for 2009: 11.55%
- Visitor Loyalty for 2009: 34.43%
- Orders made increase: 41.5%
- Average revenue per visitor: £12.67

By using their existing stock management system (Prof.IT+) more logically, we were able to streamline and integrate the entire Pattersons purchasing process.

The introduction of our ecommerce solution has made the website sit at the very heart of the business influencing how a customer orders, how the sales team interact with customers and how the customer can interact with Pattersons.

An added benefit has been that the sales team now use the website to demonstrate the features and benefits to new prospective account customers, leading to a far higher conversion rate.

“CompanyX has guided Pattersons into the digital arena whilst maintaining our local hardware store service. Our online solution has increased our revenue, minimised order processing and increased our customer base to much more lucrative deals”.
